Born on February 24, 1977, Marroquín’s life took a dramatic turn after his father’s death in 1993. Fleeing Colombia, he, along with his mother and sister Manuela, sought refuge first in Mozambique and then settled in Argentina, where they became citizens in exile.
To distance himself from his father’s dark legacy, Marroquín chose the name “Sebastián Marroquín” from a telephone book, adopting it as his new identity. Despite financially benefiting from Pablo Escobar’s name and likeness, Marroquín strives to disassociate himself from his father, the Medellín Cartel, and the illegal drug trade in Colombia.
Having earned a degree in architecture, Marroquín currently resides in Palermo Soho, Buenos Aires, with his wife and son. He works as an architect and has met some of his father’s victims, seeking reconciliation and an end to hatred.
